problem with calls - the other person doesn't hear me!

Hey
If someone here knows something more about phones than i do, please help me with this. First time i received a call it worked, but only for about 2-3 minutes, after that the other person didn't hear me anymore, but i continued to hear her. The next call - same problem. But after that it didn't work at all, from the beginning they didn't hear me... I don't know, is it because of some settings i have to make or i should just go to a service to solve the problem?
Thanks!

MetroPCS

Does anyone know if this phone can be used on MetroPCS? It looks like this phone uses WCDMA 850 / WCDMA 1900 and MetroPCS is CDMA 850 / CDMA 1700 / CDMA 1900. I do not know enough about this technology to know if CDMA and WCDMA are compatible. Also, if it is compatible, would everything work such as web, picture messaging, etc? I plan on taking it in to let them look at it, but the wait in their store is typically about an hour, so I am hoping for some information before I go in there.

My 6555 will not allow me to associate a picture with a contact. When I try I get "Operation failed". Anyone know how to fix this? Thanks, Bill

Gmail

Does anyone know how to download Gmail mobile into this 6555?? The google mobile website doesn't give me an option anywhere to download the app. I eventually found a .jar file from some site that I downloaded, but it doesn't work properly on my phone. This is my second 6555 (i returned it cause it had problems). And that first one, I was able to download gmail from some site other than google... just forget where.

thoughts?
I've just recently downloaded this app from google's gmail app page, I'm not able to enter a username or password, so I'm going to attempt to edit the .jar file and see if i can accually get a username/password into the app. I'll let ya know of any pr...

how to unlock this phone?

So I have the AT&T version, but I would like to unlock it. I don't, however, want to pay the $60 some sites seem to charge for it.

I understand that BB5 phones like the 6555 can not be unlocked via some downloaded software, but that the unlock code must be obtained from the manufacturer or provider.

Is there a way for me to receive an unlock code from Nokia or AT&T without them charging me an arm and a leg for it?

Thanks in advance for any insight you may be able to provide.

mp3 ring tone

How do you set up an mp3 ring tone?

I've looked through the manual and through Nokia's FAQ but had no luck in finding out how to turn my mp3s into a ring tone...
ringtones can only be a certain length.. a length which is usually shorter than an mp3.

to use an mp3 as a ring tone.. you have to edit the mp3 in a software like garage band to say 30seconds or so.. then load it on the phone..

Battery life with no data pack

I just want to use my phone for calling and the occasional text message. Will not having all the 3g bells and whistles help the battery life? thanks
To extend battery life.. go to settings > connectivity > packet data > when needed.

After this is done.. the 3 with the circle around it is gone from its old place by your battery symbol.

Enjoy nearly twice the battery life..

Poor game phone?

The rep at the AT&T corporate store warned me that this phone is not meant for gaming, and that by playing a lot of games the battery will die off sooner. It sounds kind of strange to me because Nokia has been known to make great gaming phones, plus this phone has a music player, internet browser, voice recorder, equalizer, video, and all kinds of other features on it. Is this true? Am I killing my phone and/or the battery by playing too many games?

Screen time-out is about 5 seconds

the main screen of the 6555 times out and goes blank at 5 or 6 seconds. This is way too fast for me, particularly when I am just learning the features. Is there any way to change the time before it goes out? I've looked all over settings and turned off all the 'batter save' features for the time being. TIA
did you ever figure out how to get the screen time out to last longer? I also just got this phone and find it very frustrating to have the screen go blank to quickly. it takes me longer than 5 seconds just to read what is on the screen. I called the o...

One work around for the display is to enable the backlight while the charger is on. This will keep the backlight and display on the entire time the charger is connected.

Menu > Settings > Enhancements > Charger > Lights > On.

Lost the calculator

My wife lost the calculator function on her phone.
it is not on the tools menu like it is suppose to be. Did a reset but it is still not there.
Checked all menus just to see if somehow it moved but not there. Even checked the shortcuts and it is not there as a function. Is it just something stupid we are over looking?

looking for some help

I am interested in getting this phone and I have some questions and I was wondering if anyone out there that either has one or knows more than I do can help me.

I've been reading all sorts of reviews about this phone and I love it for it's features; the only drawback is the battery life. So my questions are as follows:

1) Does it really help in actuality to shut off the WCDMA stuff and change the packet data settings to only when needed? Is battery life really effected enough to notice?

and

2) Am I wrong in concluding that since this phone is supposedly capable of handling a 4GB memory card, which is only available in the SDHC format that it should also be able to work with the 8GB card as well or is there some kind of firmware l...

Hola - I'm a new owner to this phone so, well I'll chip in my best reflections.
Battery: Yes there is an "as needed" WCDMA setting . I've been experimenting with it both ways and "as needed" has definitely stretched battery life from maybe a day int...

Anone out here ?

Hey people - I'm new to the 6555, and wouant to talk to some folks who have it too, if you're around. This forum is looking sort of dead- anyone around?

For Starters:
Downloading and running apps-anyone have a few ideas what to put on this phone?
Can it run Opera? How? Anyone done it? Does the phone have to be unlocked?
3g signal strength- maybe it's my area but getting a data connection is spotty. Sometimes web browsing, email, and yahoo work. Often they just don't connect.
More thoughts to come I'm certain-please, say HI if you're around.

Help with my memory card!!!

I have a 2 gig memory card for this phone, but once I format the card with the phone it will only let me use roughly 650 megabytes of space for MP3s. I tried formating it with my computer, but then the phone doesn't recognize it. Any suggestions?
most memory cards do not require formatting. Perhaps that is where your space went.

music player

Anyone have problems with their player loading songs from their mini SD card?

Cause whether I click into albums, artists, or genre and get empty lists. Except I know there's 3.5 GB of songs on there. Also last week I made one playlist with 77 songs. I can recall that playlist and all the songs show up. But that's all I get.

I've shut down the phone removed the card and put it back in. Nothing. I've tried updating the library. 5 times to no avail. Just tells me it updated 0 songs...

Also, anyone annoyed with the excessively loud speaker on this phone? Turn it up just a little bit and the distortion gets real bad. Same with my alarm. I'm not sure how to turn that thing down...

battery life?

States here talk time of 6 hours, but att site states only 3 hrs. That is a big difference. I was very excited about the 6 hours, but if it is only 3 hours it may not be worth getting it (battery life is a priority for me).

Can somebody confirm or give their first hand experience. Thanks.
I spoke with an AT&T rep yesterday who said six hours. I'm also hoping for six and not three.

voice dialing

where, what button do you push to access voice dialing? thanks
From the standby mode press and hold the right select key. You will hear a short tone and see the words “Speak now”.

Say the name as it appears in your phone book. It will not work well in a noisy area.

HELP with Alarm Volume!!

Does anyone have a clue how to turn the volume down for the alarm? I have changed my ringtone volume to the lowest and the alarm sound doesn't change. It is so loud it's horrible to wake up to. It also sounds awful like the speaker is gonna blow. Am I missing something? I hope some one can help. I had to turn the start up and shut down sounds off because they were way too loud also. Thanks in advance for any help.
heres an idea... GO TO SETTINGS and turn the alarm volume down there!!! 🙄

Set your alarm to a song you like, something that doesn't scream in your ear.
Start the media player and turn the volume down until just one bar is on. This will set the alarm to it’s lowest volume.

Battery Life - Extra Battery

I am due for an upgrade and am highly interested in this phone; I have only ever had a Nokia. The only thing stopping me is the poor battery life mentioned EVERYWHERE. 😢

I busted on my husband for buying his LG and not sticking to a Nokia the last time we upgraded. He had a lot of problems w/ his phone and a big issue was that his battery life stinks and mine is quite decent (6102). I just wanted to upgrade to a cooler looking phone and keep my excellent reception. So, I was leaning towards the 6555 but this poor battery life everyone mentions is scaring me. I'm quite shocked that Nokia would release this phone w/o fixing that BIG issue. It doesn't seem like Nokia to do this - create such a cool looking phone but have it have ...

Hey Rusty, does the battery match your 6102? If you still have that phone & the agent didn't finagle it out of you, charge your back up battery in that. That's what I did. Just as long as it's the same size battery there isn't a problem.
One of the options for the Nokia 6555 is a battery charging stand. It uses your car or home charger and will charge the battery out of the phone.
