Who cares

Are you all criminals? Are you suspect for a crime? Then don't worry about it. They are allowed to track suspects, that is it not joe blow just cause they want to. Besides it does not tell you exactly where you are.
All a person has to do is get a prepaid phone under a fake name. Or if you really must commit a crime - well maybe you should do it the old fashioned way and leave your cell phone at home that night.
you are a sheep, i hope you get investigated for what you look at on the internet so you can realize that illegality is subjective. what is your cell phone number by the way?
...
Yeah, I'm not a criminal. That's the point.

But by giving them this much power, if they want to make me out to be one, I can be. No matter what I do.
Do you like being followed by people you don't know in dark alleys at night?

Without Warrant = Without Reason

They can track you for the hell of it. They can track you if their bored.

They should have to show probable cause - which is how yo...

I care.

Regardless of if you are a criminal or not as you have outlined it in your narrow example - this is an erosion of our rights.

Maybe you remember something called the Constitution.

Well first off i got nothing to worry about with that for a few reasons. 1. I dont plan on causing any trouble so there would be no reason for that to happen to me. 2. I'm canadian so i dont gotta worry about the super paranoid government of the US as...

beating the dead horse?

does anyone feel like we are beating the dead horse here?
Yes, I don't really care about the ruling, the government will do what it wants to do regardless of its own laws. I just get upset when I hear indiference and complacency from other people. They are the people who will vote for "our" hitler when the t...

And now...

...all those people I called crazy and paranoid are actually right!

I don't have anything to hide, nor am I going to stop carrying my phone, but I don't like the idea that the police can start tracking my phone because they feel like it.
Hear hear!
As far as I'm concerned, law enforcement is getting way too much power. Why in the world is it ok for police to track someone and not even have to justify it by getting a warrant?

I have told customers for over a year their gps locator is "for 911 reasons if you get trapped in a ditch, you can be found, if the justice department wants to see who you are calling"

Does Nobody Understand?

The Government does not control this information.

Your cell phone carrier does.

The govt. can not track your exact location through your phone.

Verizon, Cingular, Sprint, Etc. Etc. Etc. can.

i.e. The govt. can NOT find out where you were without the Cell phone companies releasing the information to them.

So unless a Bush is in control of your cell phone companies security you are fine. The govt. does not control everything. If you are afraid of the Govt. repressing all your freedoms because of this stupid little deal then you shhould go live in Cuba for a few months and see how much you complain after you return.

As new technology comes out they have to adapt laws to fit the technology without invading on your rights.

Its been done this way for years...

I've seen even local police do this without a warrant. Its quite simple for them to do. I am not certain if they where working directly with the carrier or perhaps making use of an existing interface into the switch.

The officer simply provided the subscriber's number, and eventually were given current locations over the phone. This was a TDMA IS-54 or IS-136 network (whatever ATTW was running at the time), so the resolution was a little crude.

Even with newer TDMA systems like GSM, it would not be uncommon for a subscriber to be using a tower quite far removed from their geographic location -- especially in diverse terrain and dense urban areas.

However, if you are planning on commiting a crime, I have bad news if you have a CDM...

Quite Frankly, my primary concern regarding this matter is the government ultimately taking away our freedoms.

I am (for the most part) a law abiding citizen and do not care if I am being tracked through the tower I am using without a search warra...

#878 send on your cell phone will give you the sector and cell site the article makes reference too.

We are so screwed the United States of AmeriKa has turned into a dictatorship where if you don't agree with King George you are unamerican.

Imagine that un american I guess the original colonies were un american when they revolted.
thomas jefferson said he wanted a revolution every twenty years, its too bad he was the last great president. (besides lincoln of course)

with which carrier?

it will give you the sector and cell site location , on the background it also records time done. At the end of the month a report is compiled by the carrier to send to homeland security for further processing. Thanks 😳
