Your network really is abysmal. Once out of a more densely populated area, can't even get 3G. EDGE all the way. 🙄
Yeah, but if you never leave the city it's great. Unlimited high speed LTE data for $70 a month, not bad, and 3G/4G is starting to appear in a lot more places - it's pretty damn reliable when it's there.
