Where's the 3G video calling?

i guess this is a buisness thing, not wanting a camera. but shouldn't a 3G phone support video calling? Data speeds are nice, but isn't there a segment of the corportate market that would benifit from video calling?

PS all of these look pretty nice
There are already a lot of 3G phones with video calling (in fact nearly all 3G phones so far). But business users more often need 3G but don't need (or aren't allowed to have) cameras. This has been a completely unaddressed market until now.

To be ...

i would tend to agree, however, the speeds needs to be faster such as hsdpa and ev-do rev a. edge isnt that fast to do video calling.

the e70 has a camera but it will only be edge in the united states, but it will be on a 3g network in asia and eu...

If they were smart...

...they'd get it out in time for the holidays.

Beautiful looking series. I have my eye on the E61.
The holiday buying season is more of a consumer thing. For business, the fiscal year is more important, since IT buyers will often blow their leftover budget money at the end of the fiscal year (if they don't, they lose it).

The timing doesn't work...

Great phones, but Nokia is ?!?

E61 is just what I've been waiting for. And if the past is any guide, I'll be waiting longer than 2006 Q1, given Nokia's ability to hit release dates. Waited for a year for the 9500 to be release, then decided to get the 6682 instead, and waited another 6 months for that.

And why, given it's a quad band w/ North Amer. 850 + WCDMA2100, is the phone only on Nokia's European site? Even a search at nokiausa.com for any instance of E61 yeilds zip. Prob. because they want to sell as many 6682's as they can, given the bungled release of that phone. It's a world phone, fer christs sake.

SO MUCH FOR THE N-SERIES

Great job NOKIA, looks like the best phones NOKIA has come out with in a long time, but you may have just killed your N-Series. Especially the N70.
i think they cater to different markets. the N70 has video conferencing, and a different styling.

i admit... i like these a lot. not sure if i should go with the E70 or the 6280

optics?

What sort of optics do the cameras on these phones have?

There's not much point in going beyond 1.3 Mpixels if you're going to cripple the camera with a pinhole lens.

SymbianOS 9.1: phone company controls apps

Symbian OS 9.1 contains some potentially nasty features:

http://www.symbian.com/technology/symbos-v91-det.htm ... »

Platform security is extended in Symbian OS v9, providing control over the capabilities of applications installed on the devices. This is done to ensure the integrity of the phones and the network, while still enabling an open environment for third party applications.

Integrity of the network, my *ss. It's about revenue integrity.

But I'll be very happy to be proven wrong.
maybe this has to do with that deal with symantec, or the viruses that have come out affecting series 60. makes sense that carriers would request something like this to stop a virus on their network? makes me wonder about Big Brother, too 😎

Perfection?

That E70 might be the closest thing to a perfect phone I've ever seen.
I agree! That thing is a work of art. It looks like a workhorse! 🙂

I don't know about anyone else, but these phones might be the best business class handsets I've ever come across. Nice job Nokia.

i agree. it is finally a good choice that nokia goes after the more affluent demographic and brings out feature rich phones instead of the other phones that they usually come out with...

well done nokia!
