Worst Phone Ever

My friend Spencer has this phone and all he ever says is how much better my iPhone is than this thing.

Why would Verizon ever sell a device that has such a low battery life?

EV-DO?--- more like EV-dont DO!!
The iPhone sucks. No expandable memory, no removeable battery, no MMS, no video record, and you think it's better? Come on! EV-DO kicks Edge's butt anyday!

Ut Starcom 6700 as a intelos prepay?

Was offered a refurbished one for $100 by my intelos. Looks like all I see on here is talk of sprint and verizon. Any clues how well it will run internet as a prepay? Also I know nothing about it. What I am reading is it is quirky but has nice features...I need it to be my only phone, surf the internet, and listen to music. Is it a good choice for me?

Look under the Motorola E815 forum. You're clearly under the wrong phone's forum.

DONT DROP IT, as well as some other really good advice

real quick... anyone know where I can get a new volume switch/button/knob!? yea, i dropped the xv6700 at a wedding and didn't even notice it was gone. Verizon says i have to send it in and get a refurbished one with the stupid insurance program. This was at the Verizon certified repair shop. He also noticed that the slide up display was started to pull away from the keyboard a little.

ok thats my question. now for some good info for the rest of you!

There is post with 2 very important reg hacks. One for speed and another for wifi and phone at the same time. DO THOSE NOW! and soft reset after each.

everyone says they have a custome smtp port that their mail server uses and there is no place to input that setting... just add :po...

Screen not shifting/keyboard stuck in symbols

I have a Verizon 6700 with the ROM update installed. When I bought the phone (3rd Party) it worked great but the screen always starts at landscape even after I changed the settings to portrait. And when the keyboard is opened it doesnt shift back to landscape. Also the keyboard types only in symbols even after reboots and hitting the 'sym' button. I love this phone otherwise so please help!!!

No sound - third time

Verizon VZW 6700 - do use a wired headset... now when headset is not connected - there is NO sound output at all. We've had the phone replaced twice before for this issue... it seems there must be a problem with the headset lockout in the jack. Though Verizon swears there is no issue. Phone works like a champ otherwise... but getting tired of replacing it. Anyone else seeing this as a known issue? Any fixes - short of replacement? Yes, we do like and want to be able to use a wired headset.
Same problem. two replacements. going for 3rd. 😡 😡

I just got this phone and connected to a local hotspot. It took like a minute to load up a basic site like "google" let alone check my email. Why is this? Any way to speed it up? Also where can I get info on editing this phone like a reg edit or somehting. This is my first smartphone so im new to the game.

HELP! Telus Utstarcom 6700 Won't Boot Passed Telus Screen...

I bought a couple of PPC-6700 phones on an as-is basis to be used as PDA's (mainly for writing word files on the go). Phone functionality isn't important to me at all.

They looked new and both came in the box with all the accessories). They both power on, both go to this screen:

Telus Mobility

H/W=2 P SNAZ-40306
M=12 R 1.05.00
U=4 D 1.04.00 wwe

Then, the picture starts breaking apart and the same process starts over again.

I've tried plugging them in to the cradles, charging the batteries separately, plugging them into the chargers, all with the same result.

Any suggestions?
I think the units' batteries may just be dead. Should these units be able to power on with the power cord plugged in but no battery installed?

Getting WiFi access on XV6700 without activation/service. Possible?

Hello,

Can the XV6700 be used to access WiFi without having the phone activated (meaning having a service account active on the phone)? Just curious. If so, how do I set it up? When i try to connect, which do I use: bluetooth, cellular line, generic IrDA or hayes Compatible on COM1: ?

Thanks

GPS possibilities???

If this could just show its location on a map as I'm driving down the road, I would struggle to think of anymore options I would need...Is there a way to do this with the phone's internal GPS?

Then bump up the camera pixels and I could totally justify the purchase as I wouldn't have to buy any other toys.
This Pocket PC phone does not have GPS internally. But since it has bluetooth, all you need to do is purchase a bluetooth GPS receiver, get some GPS software for this phone and you'd be all set.

😲

Man! i fiddled with the GPS crap for ever before i got it to work.

First. Global positioning does not = e911, e911 uses triangulation to sort of say you are around "this" area. but does'nt do what GPS does: pinpoint your almost exact lattit...

GPS works fine. Go to Teletype.com I use it everyday
It does have the E911 feature but, that probably isn't what you are refering to. You can get the Microsoft Streets and Tips for mobile phones and add the software onto your xv6700. It is only like $24.95. You can go to microsoft.com to check it out...

Volume

I currently have an old Razor from Verizon Wireless, and i'm thinking of switchng to the PPC-6700. However, I need to know one simple thing. If you turn all volume off on the phone, will it still beep if its running low on battery power or if it doesn't get service?
I don't believe it will if you turn off both the pone volume and the PPC volume.

so i want to buy the UTStarcom PPC-6700 BUT I need to understand something

1. If I use wifi in my home does this use the wireless minutes on my plan?

2. If so do I have to download any software to make VOIP phonecalls using the wifi system.

3. Does this require any hacks or is it something the phone is set up to do?

Thanks in advance for your time and assistance.

Sheedah
1. No it does not use your wireless minutes as long as you are actually connected to a Wifi spot.

2. Don't know, haven't tried VOIP with it, not sure if it would work or not.

6700 vs. treo

I'm interested in getting a Smartphone/Pocket PC and am wondering what people think between the xv6700 and one of the newer treos. My main questions are:

Between Palm OS and Windows Mobile which has more free 3rd party apps. available and where can I find them?
Which is more reliable?
Are there any phones with Palm OS that have wifi?

Thanks a lot for any input offered.
Windows has more apps. Go with WIndows!
