Nokia 5300 or Samsung T629???

Hi, I'm new to this forum so please bare with me. I'm overdue to upgrade my current phone and I have a choice between the Samsung t629 which I can get for free or the Nokia 5300 which I'd have to pay $29.99 for with my upgrade. What do you guys think is the better deal? Would it be worth paying for the Nokia or should I get the free phone? I really like this phone with all the accesories it comes with and mp3 player. The samsung phone also has an mp3 player but doesnt sound like it's as good a quality. Anyway, your opinions would be appreciated. Thanks!
nokia 5300 all the way. samsungs are P.O.S.

Memory Card//One Music file 2.5 gigs-can't delete

I have a Kingston 2 Gig Micro Sd card. I have a file on it, a music file, which is apparently 2.5 gigs big. I open it, and there are six folders in there, all of which I can't delete, and I believe is confusing the music player, which is not playing the music in the Memory Card as of Friday. Please help!
try formatting the card. it should delete the folders. it will also delete all pics and videos and everything else on it

Broken Screen

I have a 5300 with a broken screen and I'm getting a 5310 in a few days the problem is that I have some pics in the collection folder and I was wondering how to get them out using the PC suite. If anyone could tell me the menu options on that screen it would be a big help.
I just bought a screen for it on ebay and took out my old one cost me 23 dollars with shipping thats what I would do so you have a extra phone

reinstall IM

So here is a strange problem, I lost my instant messenger, the icon no longer appears on the menu. I honestly have no idea how it happened, I'm assuming that some magical force took it out when the phone dropped that one time. Maybe it was faries or something, I have no idea. All I want to know is how to get it back in. I know that it can be done by hooking up the 5300 to my PC but I don't know what software to get and where to find the instant messenger for reinstallaion. Any help?

Ok, well I had it in my carrying case, and the carrying case is a magnet. The magnet that closes the flap is like right on the black spot. What could this be? Can I do something about this? Please help... thanks...

Does this phone support 4GB micro SD

I'm looking for a new phone. I heard this has great music playing capabilities which is very important to me, but I just don't think I'd be satisfied with 2GB.

Also how fast does it access info on the card? My Sony Ericsson seems very slow.
Thanks

LCD screen

So somehow I cracked my LCD screen and I need to replace it. I looked and found some for sale on ebay nut I've looked allover and can't find instructions on how to replace the LCD screen. Anyone have any info on this or know where I can find how to do it? Thanks
There are some instructions on youtube but they are in spanish. You can call Nokia and they will give you an adress for an authorized repair center and they will repair it for a pretty decent price.

Anyone know how many texts this holds?

I have the Samsung Blast and I hate the keyboard and nowhere can I find how to do a quick emoticon.

I'm thinking of taking it back for the Nokia 5300. Anyone know how many texts this holds in the phone (not sim).

Thanks!!!!

Amber
a lot. when i had it, i had over 4000 messages in my inbox in 2000 in my outbox and it still wasnt full. it just depends on how much memory you have on the phone.

Video player not good on this phone then?

It looks like a lot of you like this phone but have complaints about the video player. Is the video player really that bad on this phone? I don't expect it to look as good as it does on my computer but I want to get a phone that I won't have trouble playing videos on and one that the video quality isn't really poor. Sounds to me like that is a major issue with this phone. Makes me even more confused on which phone to choose, this one or the Samsung T629. Anyway, any replies to this and my other topic would be appreciated! Thanks!

Video Compatibility Issue.

I been wanting to upload my own videos from my mac to my 5300. Software v04.51. The problem is it says the file format is incompatible. Im using mp4, mpeg-4 right. . . one of the supposedly compatible formats. Before I go converting to whatever works, I was hoping someone can help me with this. Does the file have to be so many fps, and res. . .

this blows.. . . 😡
any help is greatly appreciated
Try using Nokia PC Suite to transfer the file instead of just using drag and drop. It's a free download from Nokia's site.

As far as I know those formats are compatiable not sure why they're not working.

Video's will not play unless they are in the 3GP format that's what Cell Phones use to play video's.

are the earphones loud?

I want an answer from someone who really knows what loud is...
and I want to know if the earbuds/earphones that came with this phone are loud?
I travel a lot in loud places and when I listen to music, I want to beable to hear it.

😁
I like my Music loud, lol. When you're travelling on, say, a tube or train etc. with lots of people, you will need the volume on TOPS. The headphones are good at insulating the sound, so that does make them louder. I've used the headphone jac, and oth...

ringtone

i use limewire to get my music. I don't know much about computers. I was wondering if someone can give me step by step instructions on how to set songs as a ringtone. Also does the ringtone play the whole song?
Heya! I use limewire as well. It's very easy. First, after uploading a song, go into Menu//Settings//Tones//Ringing Tone//Open Gallery

Then, select your song!! There are other things there, but you can just fiddle about with them 😁

Video player is nearly worthless

What a waste of a large TFT display.

I thought many of the videos I was downloading were bad because the picture and sound don't play at the same speed. But they play fine on a Sonyericsson w200a.
I know-the picture keeps on freezing. I have a simple plan video, and it plays the whole song to a frozen picture.

SMS "message storage memory not ready" ...

Hi,

I connected my 5300 to my PC via USB cable, then chose "data storage device" mode. After I disconnected, I can't access any Message related functions anymore. It always displays an error "Message storage memory not ready". I tried restarting, restoring factory defaults, taking out the battery/SIM but nothing helped.

Any help will be appreciated,

5300 pros and cons

I'm a big Nokia fan and have now had this phone for a month... in case anyone's thinking about getting the phone i DO recommend it but just thought i'd add my .02 about the whole 5300 experience.

Love the controls and functionality - the symbian OS is highly customizable (is that a word?) so you can program your own quick key shortcuts. screen color is gorgeous and the nokia theme looks good. turn off the annoying slide animation and myFaves animation and the phone looks even better.

The music player works great and it's nice to have 1-touch access to the music player and playlists. Sound over headphones is great - even the little dinky loudspeaker isn't that bad all things considered. Sound quality is only hampered by TMobile's ne...

Although I haven't done it I think you can get the full functionality of the phone by having it unlocked and or unbranded.

I have read in other forums that people are paying 3rd parties to do this and others say all you have to do is call up T-mob...

Playing phone's music thru car stereo?

Is there a device to hook up that enables me to play songs from my phone through my car stereo speakers? Thanks for any help.
Gary
I just use a cassette deck adapter and the 2.5 to 3.5mm adapter that came with the phone.
