AT&T Launches LTE in Tampa-St. Pete and Durham

AT&T today announced that it has launched its Long Term Evolution 4G network in the Tampa Bay - St. Petersburg metropolitan area, including Hillsborough, Pinellas, and Pasco counties. With today's launch, AT&T said its LTE network is now live in 28 markets across the U.S. AT&T said that it will expand its LTE coverage in the Tampa Bay area over the coming months. AT&T also announced that it has expanded its LTE coverage in North Carolina to include Durham. AT&T 4G LTE coverage now includes parts of Raleigh, Chapel Hill, and Durham.

Verizon Wireless today announced the 4G LTE Network Extender for homes and small businesses. The small box provides LTE coverage in buildings up to about 7,500 square feet, including services such as HD Voice and high-speed data.

AT&T today said it is testing how best to use drones within its business and went so far as to suggest using them to enhance coverage at live events such as concerts. AT&T is already using drones to inspect cell towers, but it imagines them doing much more.

T-Mobile recently confirmed that it has leased some spectrum licenses to other carriers in order to help expand its LTE 4G coverage. "We're always exploring opportunities to enhance America's fastest 4G LTE network," said T-Mobile in a statement provided to FierceWireless.
