Vringo Brings Facetones to Text Messages
Vringo today announced that a new version of its Facetones application is available to smartphones. Facetones automatically pulls photos from users' Facebook accounts to create a slideshow of individual contacts that plays on the phone's display when that contact calls or when the user calls that person. The new version of Vringo brings this same slideshow feature to incoming text messages. Facetones is available for the iPhone and to Android devices on Verizon Wireless's network.
Google Photos Picks Up New Slideshow Feature
Google today made it easier to view photo albums online and on Android handsets with a new slideshow tool. Photos users need only open an album, click a picture, and select "slideshow" from the dropdown menu to initiate a slideshow of all the photos in that particular album.

Facebook is prepared to ease the process of creating compelling video posts with your pictures. The company today said it plans to relocate the Slideshow feature built into its Moments app and drop it into the main Facebook app for iOS.

Skype has updated its Android application with support for Android Wear, giving people the power to manage Skype messages and calls from their wrist. Skype will surface notifications on Android Wear devices, and can be used to respond to messages via dictation or pre-set text.

Google has updated its Google Contacts application for Android to version 2.2 with changes to how it looks and functions. For example, the main contact view card brings back large photos, action buttons, and profile details.
Facebook Messenger Brings SMS Back to Android App
Facebook today said Facebook Messenger users will once again be able to send SMS messages — as long as they're running Android. Essentially, Android users can set Messenger as the default SMS app, which will route all SMS messages and conversations through Messenger rather than any other SMS apps that may be installed on the device.
