Verizon Says Carrier IQ Software Not on Its Phones

Carrier IQ software is not installed on any of the phones sold by Verizon Wireless, according to a tweet posted by Verizon Wireless spokesperson Jeffrey Nelson. "To be 100% clear: Carrier IQ is *not* on Verizon Wireless phones," tweeted Nelson. Carrier IQ has come under fire recently for its software, which monitors certain aspects of user behavior on smartphones.

Yeah right...

So if they don't use CarrierIQ, this is not to say they don't use another piece of software under a different name that does the same thing. There's too much at stake here. A cat and mouse game for privacy!
I fear you're right; seems too tempting for Big Red to pass-up. They do have that disclaimer on their web site about privacy and tracking where you can opt out; what does that cover? Anybody know?
