Skyfire Offers Rocket 2.0 to Network Operators
Skyfire today announced the availability of Rocket Optimizer 2.0, a tool for network operators. Rocket uses compression to reduce the bandwidth needed to deliver data over the network. It claims it can squeeze the bandwidth needed to deliver video by 60%, without affecting playback performance on the handset. Rocket 2.0 also adds support for Long Term Evolution 4G. The end result is less costly data delivery for network operators and better data performance on mobile phones.
Opera Mini for Android Adds Video Boost
Opera today updated its Opera Mini browser for Android devices and added video compression to improve playback and reduce data usage. Opera says the Video Boost tool should cut down buffering times and provide smoother performance on mobile devices when streaming video over cellular networks.

Opera Software today made an updated version of its Coast browser available to Apple's iOS devices, including the iPhone. The primary new feature is Opera's video boost technology, which uses Opera's Rocket Optimizer engine to smooth out video playback.
