Nov. 17 Next Date for Verizon LTE Network Expansion
Verizon Wireless today announced that it will expand the footprint of its Long Term Evolution 4G network yet again on November 17. It already has an expansion planned for October 20, and together with the November 17 expansion, will see 175 markets blanketed with LTE by mid-November. The November 17 expansion covers 13 new markets, including: Little Rock, Ark.; Savannah, Ga.; Cedar Rapids and Des Moines, Iowa; Lexington, Ky.; Kansas City and Springfield, Mo.; Lincoln, Neb.; Orange County, N.Y.; Greater Providence; Rapid City, S.D.; Roanoke, Va.; and Appleton, Wis. Verizon is also expanding the presence of its LTE footprint in the already established markets of Louisville, Ky.; Grand Rapids, Mich.; Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minn.; Pittsburgh, Pa.; and Nashville, Tenn. Verizon has been rolling out its LTE 4G network aggressively since its December 2010 launch.
HTC One A9: First Phone To Work on Verizon Without CDMA
HTC will sell an unlocked version of its new One A9 that can be used on Verizon's LTE network, even though the phone lacks the legacy CDMA technology found in all other Verizon phones to date. That makes the One A9 the first phone announced for use with Verizon in LTE-only mode.
Verizon Expands XLTE to 6 More Markets
Verizon Wireless today marked the one-year anniversary of its XLTE service by expanding coverage to six additional markets. XLTE is now available in Marshalltown, Iowa; Madisonville and Owensboro, Ky.; Traverse City, Mich.; Meridian, Miss.; and Martinsville, Va.
T-Mobile Says LTE Footprint Now Matches Sprint
T-Mobile CTO Neville Ray said the company's LTE 4G network now covers 280 million POPS. That's a slight improvement from the 275 million POPs T-Mobile said it covered at the end of April.
Sprint Doubles LTE Plus Footprint
Sprint today said it has doubled the availability of its LTE Plus coverage from 77 markets in November to more than 150 markets today. Some of the new markets include Boulder, Colo., West Palm Beach, Fla., Cleveland, Ohio, and Syracuse, N.Y.
Verizon Lights Up AWS Spectrum in 22 More Markets
Verizon Wireless today announced it has expanded the reach of its "XLTE" footprint by 22 markets. Verizon's LTE network runs on 700MHz almost nationwide, but it has been adding coverage in the 1700MHz band throughout the year and marketing the dual-band 700/1700MHz coverage as XLTE.
