T-Mobile Defends Staffing Reductions, FCC Restarts Clock

T-Mobile USA's parent company Deutsche Telekom was forced to defend recent job cuts after a report blamed them on the upcoming acquisition by AT&T. T-Mobile USA has reduced the staffing levels at its call centers by 2,600 people in recent months. "We have not carried out any measures to cut jobs ahead of the planned T-Mobile USA sale to AT&T," a Deutsche Telekom spokesman said to Reuters. "In the past 12 months the workforce has been reduced by 2,000 but that is in line with normal fluctuations." T-Mobile USA employs about 36,000 people. The acquisition is still under federal review. The Federal Communications Commission recently "restarted the clock" on the review, claiming that it now has sufficient levels of information from AT&T regarding the company's plans to acquire T-Mobile. The informal 180 day review period was suspended in July when the FCC asked AT&T to provide it with more details.
