Nokia today introduces the 701, a new Symbian smartphone running the Belle update. The 701's stand-out feature is its display. Nokia says the 3.5-inch IPS (in-plane switching) LCD is the world's brightest in terms of NITs. This ClearBlack display has 640 x 360 pixels and makes use of Gorilla Glass. Like the 700, the 701 comes with penta-band HSDPA/HSUPA 3G, Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth 3.0, and runs on a 1GHz processor. Other features of the 701 include an 8-megapixel camera with LED flash, autofocus, and 720p HD video capture; support for near-field communications and NFC-based accessories; FM radio; active noise cancellation; and 8GB of on-board storage and support for microSD cards up to 32GB. The Nokia 701 will be available in the third quarter of the year for approximately $420 before subsidies.
