Clearwire Finally Gets a New CEO
Clearwire today announced that it has promoted current Chief Operating Officer Erik Prusch to the President and Chief Executive Officer position. John Stanton, who has served as the company's Chairman and interim CEO during the search for a new leader, will become Executive Chairman of the Board of Directors. The promotion goes into effect starting today. Clearwire recently announced a major shift in plans, stating that it will launch a Long Term Evolution 4G network alongside its WiMax 4G network. The move will only be possible if Clearwire can raise massive amounts of cash. Prusch is charged with finding the necessary capital.
Sprint Shuffles Execs, Names New CFO
Sprint today made changes to its top executives and named a new chief financial officer. Sprint appointed Tarek Robbiati to the CFO position, where he replaces Joseph Euteneuer, who will leave the company.
Verizon Wireless CEO Dan Mead to Retire
Dan Mead, who has served as the CEO of Verizon Wireless since 2010, plans to retire according to filings the company made with the Securities and Exchange Commission. Mead will remain on the board of directors and serve as executive vice president and president of strategic initiatives.
Claure-Appointed Exec to Depart Sprint
Bob Johnson, Sprint's Chief Experience Officer, will leave the company by the end of April. Johnson was in an early batch of new hires made by CEO Marcelo Claure shortly after he took over the struggling carrier in 2014.
Masayoshi Son Would Consider Selling Sprint Spectrum
SoftBank CEO and Sprint Chairman Masayoshi Son indicated he'd be willing to sell some of the company's 2.5GHz spectrum assets to keep Sprint funded. Sprint gained a massive amount of 2.5GHz spectrum holdings when it purchased Clearwire.
