Ericsson Demos LTE Advanced, Claims 10x Speed Jump
Updated: fixed html for URL
Ericsson today announced that it has successfully tested Long Term Evolution Advanced networking technology on commercial equipment in its home country of Sweden. LTE Advanced, which is the next evolutionary step for wireless networks, promises another speed and capacity bump through carrier aggregation and extended multiple-input, multiple-output (MIMO) functionality. Ericsson claims to have reached speeds that are ten times faster than today's deployed commercial LTE networks, but it didn't say what those speeds were. Ericsson used spectrum provided by the Swedish Post and Telecom Agency and use 3GPP Release 10 compliant hardware. Ericsson expects LTE Advanced to see commercial deployments starting in 2013.
Verizon Debuts LTE Advanced with 50% Faster Speeds
Verizon Wireless today said it has launched LTE Advanced service in 461 markets around the country, covering some 288 million POPs or 90% of Americans. Verizon's LTE Advanced relies on two- and three-channel carrier aggregation to boost speed and capacity.
Verizon Launches LTE-A Service in CBRS Band 48 Spectrum
Verizon Wireless today said it has successfully kicked off LTE-Advanced service using Band 48 spectrum, known as Citizens Broadband Radio Service (CBRS). This slice of 3.5 GHz spectrum has previously been reserved for government and military use.
AT&T Says Its LTE-LAA Trials Breach 650 Mbps
AT&T today said it and partner Ericsson have reached LTE-LAA download speeds in excess of 650 Mbps in live field trials. The trials were conducted in downtown San Francisco.
Verizon Claims Real-World Speed of 953 Mbps in LTE-LAA Trial
Verizon Wireless says it has attained peak download speeds as high as 953 Mbps in a field test conducted on Boca Raton, Fla. The test was completed with commercially available equipment from Ericsson and Qualcomm using Verizon's cell tower and backhaul.
This is a true 4G
And I will be shocked if LTE-A happens by 2013. That's around the time that Verizon intends to be finished deploying LTE across it's current 3G network.
