Google today announced that the success of its recommendation service, Hotpot, has prompted it to make Hotpot a permanent part of the Google Places local search tool. From now on, it will no longer be referred to as Hotpot, bit will instead become a feature of Google Places. Google says that it plans to continue refining the Hotpot recommendation service so that it is easier for users to find local businesses, read about them, and write reviews/make recommendations. Google also announced that it has kicked off marketing campaigns for Places/Hotpot in five U.S. cities, including: Portland, Ore.; Austin, Texas; Las Vegas, Nev.; Madison, Wis.; and Charlotte, N.C. Users will still be able to access the recommendations tools from Google Maps and Google.com.
