Symbian Platform Gets Layar Browser
Layar recently released a new version of its augmented reality browser for the Symbian platform. Layar for Symbian lets Symbian users explore their surroundings with more than 30 different filters and gain a 3D view of places and locations that are nearby. It is compatible with the Nokia C7, C6-01, E7, N8, N97 and N97-mini handsets. Layar is already available to the Android and iOS platforms.
Apple Targets Augmented Reality
Apple says its new mobile platform will soon become the biggest augmented reality platform with the adoption of ARKit, a new way for developer to take advantage of existing iOS hardware and software to generate AR experiences. Apple is already working with game and other content developers to bring AR to the iPhone and iPad.
Opera Ad Blocker Now Available to Android, iOS, Windows
Opera updated several of its mobile browsers today, bringing its ad blocking tool to Android, iOS, and Windows handsets. First, Opera refreshed its main Opera browser for Android.
Google Takes A New View of Its Street View App
Google has refreshed its Street View app for both Android and iOS devices and took the opportunity to add several features. To start, Street View replaces the older Photo Sphere Camera app for iPhones and the legacy Street View from Google Maps app on Android phones.
Send Places from Google Maps to Your iPhone
Google recently provided an update to its Maps app for iOS that adds the ability to send places from Maps on a desktop to an iPhone. The feature, which has been available to Android phones for several months, requires iPhone owners to enable notifications for Maps.
