LG Debuts Two More LTE Modems for Verizon
LG today announced to new Long Term Evolution modems for Verizon Wireless' network. The LG WM300 LTE module and LG L2000 modem chip can be used in a range of consumer devices, such as laptop dongles, and business uses, such as in telematics and M2M (machine-to-machine) communications. LG and Verizon didn't specify when the modems would be offered in finalized products.
Ericsson to Dump Mobile Modem Biz
Ericsson today said it will cease to make wireless modems for mobile devices and cut about 1,000 jobs as a result. Ericsson cited fierce competition in the space as playing a role in its decision.
Verizon Eying December 2019 to Shutter CDMA 1x Network
Verizon Wireless says it is aiming to wind down its 2G CDMA 1x network by the end of December 2019. Approximately 92% of Verizon's wireless traffic travels over LTE now.

Nvidia to Wind Down LTE Modem Business
Nvidia said it plans to cease chasing the LTE mobile business by the middle of 2016. Nvidia purchased a company called Icera in 2011 with the intent of integrating its own application processors with Icera's LTE modems so it could better compete with Qualcomm.
