Broadcom today announced its intent to acquire Beceem for approximately $316 million in cash. Beceem is a privately held company that makes and markets WiMax and Long Term Evolution equipment. It recently announced a new multi-mode platform that supports both the WiMax and LTE standards. The acquisition will allow Broadcom to bring 4G technology and products to market sooner. Broadcom now offers a wide range of 2G, 3G, 4G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and GPS chips and solutions for hardware makers and network operators.
