Speaking in an interview with FierceWireless, HTC CEO Peter Chou provided some insight on HTC's current and future smartphone plans. First, Chou said that it will bring a Long Term Evolution smartphone to market in 2011. "HTC was the first with 3G smartphone and 4G smartphone, and we are definitely looking to future network technologies," he said. Chou didn't provide details more than that. Changing topics, Chou noted that the company will not deploy Sense on Windows Phone 7 devices in its current state. "Initially, we don't have time to bring things on top of [Windows Phone 7]. But over time we will innovate on top of that to provide some HTC experience. I don't think we would do complete Sense UI on Windows Phone 7. However, I will say that we will innovate differently to improve the experience and to get some HTC unique and differentiated experience on Windows Phone 7 in the future." Sense is a user interface overlay that HTC developed for some of its Android and Windows Mobile devices.

I Like Sense...

I know for many, stock Android is their choice. However, I love the personality Sense brings to HTC's devices. I don't require modifications or special interface specifications to enjoy my phone as most everything I need is accessible.

But for many, this news is welcome.

That's cool that you like Sense, I know a lot of people do. All I'm asking is that HTC make it optional.

Ship with stock Android installed and Sense as an add-on image. Then ask on the first bootup if you'd like Sense installed. If yes, it install...

Now if only we could get it off the Android phones...

I'd like to see Sense removed, or at least made optional, on the Android phones. Hopefully that's coming soon too!
Install some other home screen replacement and then when you hit the home button you can choose stock android home or sense home.

Does Sense on WP7 even make sense?

Isn't one of the biggest features of Windows Phone 7 their new home screen layout??? Then it's probably a good thing that HTC didn't have time to add their own layer on top of it. It's not like it's Windows Mobile 6 that needs some help because it was just built on carryovers from previous windows UI concepts going all the way back to the desktop. We're talking about a brand new interface that was created based on the needs of real end users.

I personally have a Samsung Captivate that has the TouchWiz layer, but thankfully the hardware handles it fine and it's not bad to use. But I would have been completely fine with stock Android 2.1. But if not for Samsung's need to add Touchwiz I would be on Android 2.2 already.

I just doesn'...
