Clearwire today announced a new deal with UQ Communications of Japan that allows customers of either company to roam onto their respective WiMax networks when traveling. The Day Pass allows Clearwire customers to roam on UQ Communication's network and use unlimited data wherever UQ has coverage in Japan. The service will first be available to laptops and other devices with WiMax embedded inside (it doesn't apply to phones, yet). Clearwire's U.S. customers will be able to purchase the Day Pass for about $7. UQ provides WiMax to approximately 90% of Japan's population, including the country's largest cities. It's not clear if or when Sprint's devices will be able to roam on UQ's network.

Another Great Move.

Increasing WiMAX's footprint world wide is a great thing. I hope others adopt the same practice. I like to see choice and having these choices even outside of one country, only placates everyone for diversified needs.

Of course, it also doesn't hurt that I support WiMAX. 😁
