CTIA Names New Leader

Former Congressman and NFL Football Hall of Fame member Steve Largent will replace Tom Wheeler as President and CEO of the Cellular Telecommunications & Internet Association (CTIA) effective November 2003. Largent served in the House of Representatives from 1995-2001, where he served on the Telecommunications Subcommittee. CTIA is the primary association for the wireless telecom industry in the U.S., representing carriers, manufacturers and wireless Internet providers.
Industry Reacts to White House Net Neutrality Push
Following the White House's request to reclassify the internet as a utility, a number of industry organizations have fielded responses. First to respond was FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler.
Carriers to Rely on CTIA, Other Trade Groups to Sue FCC
AT&T, Verizon Wireless and other mobile network operators won't sue the FCC over its proposed net neutrality plans on their own, but will through a number of trade groups. Sources cited by Reuters suggest the move will allow the carriers to streamline their litigation and prevent them from becoming the targets of backlash.
FCC Stuffs Lobbyists' Attempt to Stay Net Neutrality Rules
The FCC has denied petitions filed by a wide range of lobbying organizations that sought to stay the FCC's proposed net neutrality regulations. The CTIA Wireless Association, USTelecom, AT&T, Wireless Internet Service Providers Association, CenturyLink, American Cable Association, and the National Cable & Telecommunications Association all filed petitions hoping to prevent the FCC from formally adopting its rules in early June.

The CTIA Wireless Association today filed a lawsuit in the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals aiming to prevent the FCC from imposing its proposed net neutrality rules.
AT&T Piles On The FCC with Another Net Neutrality Suit
AT&T joined a growing number of bodies suing the FCC Tuesday in an attempt to overturn the agency's net neutrality rules. AT&T's lawsuit follows others filed by the American Cable Association, National Cable & Telecommunications Association, United States Telecom Association, and the CTIA Wireless Association.
