WiMax Goes Live in Seven Markets Today

Today Sprint and Clearwire announced the launch of WiMax in seven markets. They markets are Rochester, N.Y., Syracuse, N.Y., Merced, Calif., Visalia, Calif., Eugene, Ore., Tri-Cities, Wash., and Yakima, Wash. Some had previously been announced as additions to the companies' shared footprint, but today marks the day they are available for customers to use. Sprint says WiMax is live in 43 markets.

why dont they release these upgrades in way bigger cities? like Los Angeles?.... That way maybe these way bigger markets can get more customers.

My aunt lives in Visalia, that place has about the same number of ppl that live on my block....

Anyone in Rochester tried this yet?

How's it working? I'm considering an EVO, but not sure if the extra $10 is worth it. Also, one of the Sprint dealers said I could download an Android app to allow wireless tethering w/o needing to pay $30 for the Sprint Mobile Hotspot add-on. Does that sound right?
that sounds right but is not fully supported by sprint. if your phone is defective and they find that, then they'll say you've rooted the device and voided the warranty. it's kind of hard to proove but you know, just a little heads up.
I haven't been able to experience it yet as I am out of town until tonight. I had service in Henrietta this morning as I left. Speed was much faster! I understand they are still fine tuning the network. So it may continue to be spotty for a few days. ...
