Today RadioShack announced that it will open 1,600 of its retail shops at 6AM on June 4 to accommodate those who pre-ordered the HTC EVO 4G Android/WiMax phone. RadioShack will also give those who pre-ordered the EVO 4G a 15% discount on all accessory purchases made that day. RadioShack said it is also setting aside a number of EVO 4Gs for those who didn't pre-order. The EVO 4G costs $200 for new and existing customers with activation of qualifying plan. RadioShack also said that select stores will have "EVO 4G Experience Centers' which will let potential customers see what the EVO 4G can do. RadioShack notes that people should call their local RadioShack retail location ahead of time to ensure that it is opening at 6AM on June 4.

This is all assuming...

...that 2500 mhz WiMax will actually penetrate a building.
I am prettry sure it does, when most retail companies are using it such as walmart.

Not so fast...

First off, let me start by saying how happy I no longer work for RadioShack. I quit 3 weeks ago after 4 years to work for at&t...couldn't be happier. 6am is a little ridiculous. Anyway, I was a Sprint customer for five years. My last disappointment as a customer was the Pre. I remember waiting for months with all the built up "iphone killer" talk that all these new phones get. All I can say is that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. Something about HTC just kinda rubs me the wrong way. My roommate has a Nexus One for at&t, and has already had to send it back 2 times because of issues. Not only that, but this was their "superphone." I mean come on, how impressive is that thing to really use? I have played with an HD2, and yes, the...

I agree. Sprint's 4G won't be acceptably viable for a while. And AT&T's 3G speeds are being steadily pumped up. And their voice coverage is excellent.

I'd go with AT&T if it came down to it.

I am not going to even go into coverage with you, because you obviously fail in that category. And your price plan analysis is horrible, sprint gives you unlimited calls to cell phones on that plan, and it is for EVERYBODY!!!!! you have an employee pl...

radio shack :S

I'm from cust care of sprint and I hate people who purshase their phones at radio shack because in order for radio shack to sale they tell customers "sprint customer care will waive the 18.00 HUP fee" and that does'nt happer so just so all you dear sprint customers WE WILL NOT CREDIT THE 18.00 it's blocked ☹️
but you also charge extra $$$ for the mail in rebate, and also the person you're speaking with is now a sprint customer. wait, what were you complaining about again? oh yeah radioshack.
Yeah radioshack shouldn't lie like that, it's very unprofessiona...

its over!!

Now that at@t announced tiered data plans, I really see perspective smart phone customers leaning to buy the evo. Seeing how smart phones of the future will only get more data intensive, (I see phones with hdmi outputs having an app for netflix stream which will destroy data consumption) at@t Shot itself in the foot. Awful timing at@t, I will be up grading from my hero to an evo this fall, with unlimited 4g for only $10 I'm loving sprints and the now network more and more everyday!
I predict the same thing! And as Wimax & LTE speeds increase, hopefully that will happen 2nd half of next yr, the next generation of memory cards will be coming out, my guess is 2nd half of next year, called microsd-xc, xc as in eXtended Capacity, eve...
