Sprint provided a brief statement to Phone Scoop when asked about when and how the Android 2.1 update will be provided to users of the HTC Hero and Samsung Moment. Sprint spokesperson Mark Elliott said in an email, "Sprint expects to upgrade from Android 1.5 directly to 2.1 by early Q2 of 2010. We are currently working through the options for upgrades with the manufacturing partners. We will communicate details on how to load the update when it is available."

What is the Hold up already???

All I have to say is come on already!! I guess I was hoping for a miracle that it would be today. I can understand if they want all the bugs worked out but really this long. Are we even really going to get it??? Sprint's own people say May & they are going to have alot of angry customers if not which is the last thing they need! I have been really satisfied being back with them so far except for waiting on this.
I call SHENANIGANS!! 😲

I read somewhere that this update may not be an OTA update due to the size of each file...80MB for the Moment and 117MB for the Hero. So Sprints options are either create a desktop update system or use Googles servers, which has not been tested and t...

I don't get it. We are only 3 days into May and people are this impatient? There are 4 months in a quarter. So the way I see it, is it could be 4 weeks down the road when it is released for "2Q" and still be considered early 2Q.

All due respect, I...

So what if...

What if you want to run an app such as Google Earth or the new official Twitter app? You're SOL?

Simply put: Fail.
Or if your iphone goes to a site that has flash, FAIL. LOL go troll someplace else.

yep sprint sucks Kay is just the only sprint cheerleader left, don't blame her.

EVERYONE RELAX!

Sprint First said Q2, unless it is no longer Q2, don't complain! All the news sites took it upon themselves to pick dates and speculate and gave everyone's hopes up, sprint didn't!

If Sprint released the Update without fully testing it, and it had bugs, the same people would be complaing that Sprint rushed it and not there phone doesnt work, and demand credits for their phone now being broke.

Sit back, relax, the update will be here soon enough. Its just a phone update, not the end of the world!
Still seems fishy regardless slooooow Sprint! They certainly arent helping themselves delaying more and more makes them look incompetent grant it Im happy with them in general. But they get hopes up when there own internal shots now say first week of ...

You say relax!?!

By time sprint gets this out the hardware is going to be a year old! The moment and hero both suck.

Sprint has said "early q2" and even reiterated it in this last statement. This is not what many consider "early" in the quarter as we are more than 30% through.
...
yep and rooted, its great, Im lovin' it like a big mac. I agree it still has some bugs that need to be ironed out but so far its good and stable for everyday use. Credit goes to SDX.

Now I just read

Someone said in a blog that tech support told them no release until after the new 4g evo phone is released which is June! because it will take away from the excitement of that. If that is true & Sprint can launch it and is not that is so shady and means they care nothing about there current customers which would be very stupid! Who knows what to believe anymore

If you have the Hero and want it that bad...

Just download the leaked 2.1 RUU test from Sprint that came out a few weeks ago. Little buggy though. Look on xda-developers for it.
Agreed, I have a rooted hero(found a workaround for the cupcake black on rooting) running damageless 2.1 rom. It's amazing.
