Steve Jobs Explains Apple's Position on Adobe's Flash

In a rare long-form post on Apple's HotNews section of its Web site, Apple CEO Steve Jobs explained in detail a number of reasons why Apple does not use Adobe's Flash technology on any iPhone OS-based products. Jobs cites numerous reasons for leaving out Flash, foremost among these are power management, security, reliability and the proprietary control Adobe has over Flash. Jobs notes that most Web sites using Flash are designed for mouse pointer navigation, and not touch input, and would have to be redesigned anyway. Further, Jobs emphasizes that a cross platform development tool, like Flash, forces developers to rely on a third party for feature upgrades instead of moving at the pace of the first party creator. Of note, Jobs begins by emphasizing Apple's strong relationship and history with Adobe, claiming that Macintosh users account for nearly 50% of Adobe's Creative Suite sales.

I read it, and it makes sense.

Did anyone know that Apple used to own 20% of Adobe???

Anyway, I can say, after reading what Steve had to say that I, for the first time, completely support Apple's decision to not allow flash on the iPhone or iPad platforms.

It honestly just makes way to much sense to argue with.

Before responding, head over to the read link and actually read what he has to say.
Whatever man. Apple can have the best reason ever to not support Flash, but the simple truth is people want it, and it is exceedingly prevalent on the web. When HTML5 becomes more accepted, then I am all for it. All Apple is doing here is telling p...

I did read it.

1. 'It's not open' Really? You mean like apple? Or how Apple FINALLY allowed for low level access to their graphics card API's for third parties, FINALLY allowing flash to start hardware accelerating. No, flash isn't "open" but ...

I call BS

I don't think they account for 50% of adobes sales for that product. I may be wrong but prove it to me IMO, he should have solid sales figures to back up his claims.
I don't know, those who buy Apple seem to be in a pretty defined genre of people. If you are a photographer, film editor or if you are in a "creative" field you tend to purchase a mac.

I can see this statistic as being accurate, I don't know. I su...

Pretty much all graphics shops run Mac. They'd have to be pretty masochistic to run Windows.

Most people with PC's I know who run Photoshop run pirated copies. Just sayin' .

Haha, and Steve Jobs is one to talk about proprietary technology. At least I got my laugh for the day.

APPLE IS EVIL

SteVE JoB$$$$ just wants your $$$$$$$. 👿 😈

THATS THE ONLY REASON. PERIOD. APPLE just wants you to PAY FOR APPS$$$$$ so THEY GET MONEY and can lock you in to their PROPRIETARY FORMAT of HTML5.
