Microsoft Offers Developers Windows Phone 7 Tools

At the MIX10 conference in Las Vegas, Microsoft today offered developers the first tools to develop applications for the upcoming Windows Phone 7 Series platform. Foremost among these, developers will use Silverlight for rich Internet applications and the XNA game studio for game development. Microsoft offered details about the new Windows Phone Marketplace. Customers will be able to buy apps using a credit card, apps can be charged to a cell phone bill with mobile operator billing, or apps may be advertising driven. At the conference, developers received the first free comprehensive tool support package for Silverlight on Windows Phone 7 Series devices. In addition, Microsoft announced new beta and release candidate versions of their development technologies. A beta version of the visual development tool Expression Blend 4 for Windows Phone was announced, and Microsoft previewed the new Visual Studio 2010 Express for Windows Phone. Expression Blend 4 and Visual Studio 2010 will be available as part of the free tool support package. Microsoft also announced a release candidate for Silverlight 4, one of the primary underlying technologies for the new Windows Phone 7 Series OS.
