Google recently enabled a Labs experimental feature for Android handsets that allows users to perform searches by drawing gestures on the display. According to Google, Gesture Search lets users find a contact, an application, a bookmark, or a music file more quickly by drawing alphabet gestures on the touch screen. In order to perform searches, users open the app and draw a letter "A", for example. The app will then search through the device's contacts or bookmarks that start with or include the letter A. Google accounts for sloppy handwriting by bringing up results for whatever other letter resembles what the user may have drawn. Users can erase gesture-based queries by swiping left to right, or swipe right to left to remove the last letter or space in the query. Gesture Search will also learn user behavior based on past searches. The Lab is available to Android devices running system 2.0 and up. It can be downloaded from the Android Market.
