MetroPCS Hires Bank for Possible Leap Acquisition

Today sources cited by the Wall Street Journal indicated that MetroPCS has hired J.P. Morgan Chase in order to help it with a possible acquisition of Leap Wireless. Leap Wireless recently hired a banking firm (Goldman Sachs) to help it explore the possibility of selling itself to another carrier. MetroPCS has bid for Leap in the past, but was turned down. Now that Leap is exploring its options, MetroPCS has a better chance of making an acquisition work.

Metro and Leap

I can really see this working out. Frankly we need to see some consolidation on the flat unlimited side of things to keep things competitive with the big boys.

Metro Coverage area

If MetroPCS does acquire Leap how big would that network be, and what would the coverage area look like on a nationwide scale?
