Lawmakers in the State of Missouri will be considering legislation early next year that would ban all drivers in the state from sending text messages while operating a motor vehicle. Under current law, only those aged 21 and younger are barred from texting and driving, though there are notable exceptions, such as when the driver needs to report a crime or emergency. State lawmakers now feel that the ban should apply to everyone.

So your coming around a corner where you dont have a stop sign and there is a person coming towards you who does have a stop sign and instead of stopping they are texting dont see it in time and hit your side going 40mph you go to the hospital and fin...
he is still watching the road
Looking just at automobile laws, there's a range of freedoms that have been steadily taken away from Americans as time has progressed, the overwhelming majority of them related to safety/security, and the overwhelming majority of them entirely j ...

I live in Missouri and I've been waiting for this. I'm 15, and I cannot stand texting and driving. My friends do it and make them stop. Quite honestly I'm glad this is happening. Even though older people text less, they're more dangerous than a teen texting in some cases. I was in the car and there was a women [probably in her 60's] texting in the car next to us, and she was swerving all over the road. We honked at her and she gave us a nasty look and kept doing it. At least my friends can still drive while texting.
Regardless, it's a dumb thing to do and I cannot believe there are people who say it's not a bad thing... Confused
I'm 24, and yes...I text while driving. The only difference is I *NEVER* make sending a text my priority, and I always do it on stretches of road where using two hands isn't really required (Long stretches of highway, stop signs/lights, etc.) The poli...

This should have happened long ago

When I was younger delivering pizza about ten years ago I got into an accident while texting someone. I was lucky enough to hit a parked car with nobody in it but in a matter of a couple seconds not looking at the road I wound up getting in the only car accident of my life. I can't even imagine how many bad drivers there are out there that get into accidents because they are too busy looking at their phone instead of the road.
are already on the books. Do you really need a politician to tell you that texting while driving is foolish. Come on. You knew you were wrong when you did this. having a law on the books just means you will get a ticket for texting while driving r...
every time they make a law everyone will stop doing....what ever??

Why do we no longer have any smarts or responsibility? We need the government to police and control everything. We might have 40 laws for one thing or another but lets do just one m...

How can they prove it? What if you were just looking at your phone but not texting? Eh?
Subpoena your Phone Bill...

Think they'll eventually get to that??
I suppose if it were a serious enough accident (say you killed someone), then it would be worth subpeonaing your records. Or if a cop saw you and caught you, then you could be ticketed.

What I don't get is using your phone for other purposes. What ...

The Bottome Line

The government is going to continue to pass legislation to limit distractions while driving. Before we know it, it will be mandatory to drive with your hands at 10 and 2, no music, cars set to auto-climate, and can have no one else in your car.
That is if we can afford the car, gas and all the other stuff that is rammed down our *****

I understand

the danger behind texting and driving, but now they are just looking for more reasons to pull you over and write you a ticket for everything they can.
isin't that the truth my brother got a ticket for skating with no helmet. I think it should be your choice on what you choose to do. it's not right.
that's dumb to discriminate against the youth versus old people who don't text anyway

This has been the law in Alaska for some time now ...

... and absolutely no one seems to pay attention to it. At every stop light most people are looking down into their laps. I assume they're not asleep...
If they're at a stop light, it's ok.

I look at it this way...

...I endanger other people on the road if I use my cell phone while driving.

So I don't. Pretty simple.

Ban all Drivers from............

Tell me how you are going to give law enforcement periscope type Rolling Eyes devices so they can peek down into someones lap where they will conceal the device while they text.
