Today U.S. Senator John McCain introduced legislation that would block the FCC from regulating the internet. According to McCain, the Internet Freedom Act of 2009 will "keep the Internet free from government control and regulation. It will allow for continued innovation that will in turn create more high-paying jobs. Keeping businesses free from oppressive regulations is the best stimulus for the current economy." Earlier today, the FCC voted to move forward with plans to introduce legislation of its own to govern the use of broadband and it believes that its vision of net neutrality is what Americans need most.

Based on your comments you obviously don't.

China Regulates the Internet

In China the internet is so regulated that your not even allowed a device that includes wifi. All websites are approved by the Government and they have teams of THOUSANDS of engineers sitting at computers blocking sites.

Obama's czars would never do anything like that... 🙄

Net Neutrality will allow Private industries to be forced by the Government block spam and illegal content- who decides if its illegal or not... oh ya
You are so correct. I am very sure we can trust the President with all our freedoms!

McCain Insane

It's amazing how much McCain has changed over the years. He used to fight for the little guy but his latest bill, which should really be called "The Government Internet Restriction and Campaign Contributors Confirmation Act of 2009", shows how he's totally lost touch with his original core values.

The FCC's goal is the exact opposite of what his bill is attempting to accomplish. The FCC's goal will be to prevent regulation of the Internet by the few large companies that own the backbone and, surprise, attempt to 'regulate' the content on their backbone by claiming it's theirs! When people see "regulation" they think government. But a synonym for "regulation" is "Control- look it up!

The FCC's plan will ensure that no one "controls" wh...

It's well documented that the guy is no technophile, and he's admitted that his familiarity with the internet just isn't close to what it should be. What's happened here is obvious: a trade group opposed to Net Neutrality (or more likely, a PAC repre...

Let's Check His Financial Donors

Man! A choice between this guy and Obama I am glad I voted third party. In any event, the first thing which needs to be done is to check his campaign contributors. I smell a rat.

I have not seen the details of the bill so I can't comment on that aspect of the article.
