Today T-Mobile confirmed that the rollout of Android 1.6 — aka, Donut — to T-Mobile's G1 and myTouch 3G customers is now underway. The over-the-air update will be delivered to all T-Mobile G1 and T-Mobile myTouch 3G customers in the coming days. Android 1.6 brings several new features to the Android platform, including a new version of the Android Market and a re-worked the search function, including the ability to search phone systems such as the browser bookmarks and history, contacts, and the Web from the desktop.

will rooted devices get update?

Does anybody know if modded/rooted devices will get OTA updates? I'm running CyanogenMod 4.0.1 and am curious to see what happens.
From my understanding of the issue is that, you will no longer recieve access to the Google Cloud/Experience when Donut rolls out...

I had my G1 running the same software, not wanting to lose my connection I unwillingly went back to 1.5 on the cyan...
If you have a rooted phone you could have had 1.6 weeks ago. I've had 1.6 for a while now. Check xda-developers there are 1.6 roms out there. At this point cyanogen is working on a legal 1.6 because he got a C&D from google. Check in a few days at...

Good News!

I thought the G1 couldn't get 1.6? I was actually rather upset about that. My wife and I both had the G1, I moved on to a 8900 (as cool as the Android Market is, it wasn't enough for me and oddly enough, the simplicity of the 8900 was) and am still waiting to try out a Touch Pro 2. Keeping up with the G1, MyTouch and Android however, I thought the g1 wouldn't be able to update to 1.6. I am very happy to hear different and I cant wait to see the changes on my wifes phone.

I'm gonna call her at her lunch break and tell her the "Good News!"

Ty Scoop.
I agree completely! I have the G1 and heard similar news, I sure hope the rumors are wrong! I will post a through run through when I get it.

To be a bit off topic I was hoping that the CyanogenMod Cease and Desist order would pop up on here under n...
Unless there are memory/processor limitations, there's nothing technical that says any phone CAN'T be ugradeable. It's more to do with the manufacturers willingness to support such an upgrade and code the OS to support the hardware. I'm guessing the...
