Today T-Mobile confirmed that the rollout of Android 1.6 — aka, Donut — to T-Mobile's G1 and myTouch 3G customers is now underway. The over-the-air update will be delivered to all T-Mobile G1 and T-Mobile myTouch 3G customers in the coming days. Android 1.6 brings several new features to the Android platform, including a new version of the Android Market and a re-worked the search function, including the ability to search phone systems such as the browser bookmarks and history, contacts, and the Web from the desktop.

I thought the G1 couldn't get 1.6? I was actually rather upset about that. My wife and I both had the G1, I moved on to a 8900 (as cool as the Android Market is, it wasn't enough for me and oddly enough, the simplicity of the 8900 was) and am still waiting to try out a Touch Pro 2. Keeping up with the G1, MyTouch and Android however, I thought the g1 wouldn't be able to update to 1.6. I am very happy to hear different and I cant wait to see the changes on my wifes phone.

Unless there are memory/processor limitations, there's nothing technical that says any phone CAN'T be ugradeable. It's more to do with the manufacturers willingness to support such an upgrade and code the OS to support the hardware. I'm guessing the... (continues)
i have an unlocked G1 with at&t prepaid so i only use the net with my wifi, if i leave wifi on and turn sleep off can i receive the download too? or can anyone provide a link to where i can download it to my SD card. thx
