Nokia Tweaks Organizational Structure
Nokia today said that it is adding a new division to its organization that will help the disparate units act more cohesively and offer more complete hardware and service combinations. The Solutions unit, to be headed by Alberto Torres, currently head of Devices Category Management, will tie together Nokia's device offerings with its service offerings and create a more seamless user experience for all the products involved. The unit will begin operations October 1, 2009.
Nokia Makes HERE Sale to Audi, BMW, Daimler Official
Nokia today formally announced the sale of its HERE Maps business unit to a consortium of three German auto makers. Audi, BMW, and Daimler have agreed to buy HERE Maps for $3 billion.
Apple and Nokia Bury the Patent Hatchet
Apple today said it has settled its patent complaints against Nokia and the two have signed a multi-year patent license. The two corporations sued one another in December of last year concerning licensing fees for Nokia's patents.
Nokia and Samsung Expand Patent Agreement
Nokia and Samsung have broadened an existing patent cross-licensing agreement to include more intellectual property. The companies ended patent litigation between the two in February with an initial cross-licensing agreement.
Audi, BMW, Daimler to Buy Nokia's HERE Maps
A consortium of three German automotive makers has agreed to purchase HERE Maps from Nokia for about $2.71 billion, according to the Wall Street Journal. Sources familiar with Nokia's plans say Audi, BMW, and Daimler (Mercedes) have fielded a winning bid for the mapping division, which Nokia put up for sale earlier this year.
