The Korean Fair Trade Commission (KFTC) has levied the equivalent of a $208 million fine against U.S.-based Qualcomm. The anti-trust agency alleges that Qualcomm discriminates against companies that use competitors' products. Qualcomm's largest customers in South Korea are Samsung and LG, two of the world's biggest suppliers of mobile phones. In South Korea, Qualcomm owns 99.4% of the CDMA market. The KFTC said, "When licensing its CDMA mobile technology, Qualcomm levied higher royalties on companies that used modem chips supplied by rival companies." The KFTC also alleges that Qualcomm provided rebates to companies that used its chips. The allegations and fine cap a three-year investigation into Qualcomm's activities in South Korea. Qualcomm stated, "There has been no illegal activity."
