Ericsson Agrees to License Its LTE Tech
Today Ericsson announced it intent to license its Long Term Evolution cell phone technology to other companies interested in using it in their products. Ericsson didn't announced any companies licensing its patents in particular, but this opens the door for other companies to more easily obtain access to LTE technology. Ericsson also licenses its GSM and WCDMA technology patents.
Ericsson Sues Apple in Three Countries Over Patent Misuse
Ericsson today stepped up its legal action against Apple with new lawsuits filed in the U.K., the Netherlands, and Germany. Ericsson asserts Apple is using its wireless technology patents without the proper licenses.
Oppo Licenses Qualcomm 3G/4G Patents
Oppo today said it has agreed to license a number of Qualcomm patents pertaining to 3G and 4G technologies. Qualcomm says Oppo may now "develop, manufacture, and sell" 3G and 4G devices in China that use its WCDMA, CDMA2000, LTE-TDD, TD-SCDMA, and GSM technologies.
Apple and Ericsson Sign Patent Accord, Settle Lawsuits
Apple and Ericsson have signed a patent-licensing agreement and put an end to on-going patent litigation between the two. Ericsson said the deal is broad and covers 2G, 3G, and 4G LTE technologies.
LG Agrees to Pay Nokia Royalties, But Rates Not Settled
LG has signed a patent-licensing agreement with Nokia over smartphone technology, but the companies have yet to agree on pricing for the patents. Nokia may have sold its handset business to Microsoft, but it retained many of the related patents for licensing purposes.
