Today Nokia announced that it is providing open access to its H.264/MPEG-4 Multi-View Video Coding (MVC) standard source code. MVC is part of the H.264/AVC family of video codecs. Its chief benefits are better compression and performance over the network, all while delivering 2D and 3D video to suitably equipped mobile devices. Nokia is giving away the source code in hopes that developers will add to its capabilities and bring new mobile video services and applications to the market.
