Nokia Siemens Makes Bid for Nortel Unit
The Wall Street Journal is reporting that Nokia Siemens Networks has made an offer to buy large segments of Nortel's wireless networking and research units. The Journal, citing sources familiar with the matter, says that Nokia is interested in the Long Term Evolution technologies developed by Nortel. Nortel, which is in bankruptcy protection, is actively looking to sell off assets, including pieces of its business.
Audi, BMW, Daimler to Buy Nokia's HERE Maps
A consortium of three German automotive makers has agreed to purchase HERE Maps from Nokia for about $2.71 billion, according to the Wall Street Journal. Sources familiar with Nokia's plans say Audi, BMW, and Daimler (Mercedes) have fielded a winning bid for the mapping division, which Nokia put up for sale earlier this year.
Nokia to Pare Down Its Technologies Unit
Nokia today said it intends to cut about 70 jobs from its Technologies unit. "Nokia Technologies has revised its long-term strategy and will consequently reshape [the] organization.
BlackBerry Sues Nokia Over Patents
BlackBerry filed a patent infringement lawsuit against Nokia this week. BlackBerry claims Nokia is using its patented technology in select telecommunications equipment that Nokia sells to network operators, such as T-Mobile, without the proper licenses.
Nokia Makes HERE Sale to Audi, BMW, Daimler Official
Nokia today formally announced the sale of its HERE Maps business unit to a consortium of three German auto makers. Audi, BMW, and Daimler have agreed to buy HERE Maps for $3 billion.
