Qualcomm to Make Femtocell Chipsets
Qualcomm announced that it has added chipsets specifically for femtocells to its product road map. Qualcomm's Femtocell Station Modem chipsets will be able to run 3GPP HSPA+ and CDMA 1X, EV-DO Rev. A and Rev. B. They will contain basebands and RF capabilities for all the major wireless bands. The chipsets will also be able to analyze and minimize interference between femtocells and the larger macro cell network. The chips will sample in the second quarter of 2010.
Huawei Takes Aim at Snapdragon 810 with Kirin 950
Huawei today announced the Kirin 950 chipset for phones, which is designed to compete with Qualcomm Snapdragon 800-series chipsets in higher-end phones. Huawei claims that the 950 is 25% faster and 44% more power-efficient than the Snapdragon 810, Qualcomm's current flagship chip.
Nokia's ReefShark Chips to Connect 5G Base Stations
Nokia today announced new 5G chipsets that will triple the throughput of base stations while also drastically slashing power consumption. The ReefShark chipsets pair Nokia's antennas with artificial intelligence in order to push the performance of base stations.
Intel, Samsung Pile On Qualcomm By Supporting FTC Lawsuit
Intel and Samsung support the Federal Trade Commission's antitrust investigation against Qualcomm and have filed amicus briefs to air their own complaints. The FTC hit Qualcomm with legal action in January and suggested that the company's patent licensing practices may violate monopoly regulations.

Qualcomm this week launched a major new patent dispute with Apple. Qualcomm is filing a complaint with the United States International Trade Commission (ITC) seeking to block the importation of iPhones that infringe on six Qualcomm patents loosely related to power efficiency.
