Qualcomm's Chips Now NFC-Enabled
Qualcomm announced that its latest mobile chipsets will have Near Field Communication (NFC) technology on board. Qualcomm is working with its technology partners to add NFC support to its Mobile Station Modem chipsets. NFC can be used for short-range communications between devices for things such as mobile payment systems. Qualcomm did not say when these chips would be available to phone manufacturers.
Qualcomm to Add NXP Secure Element to Snapdragon Chips
Qualcomm today announced that it will use technology from NXP to help bring NFC-based mobile payments across more phone makers. Specifically, Qualcomm plans to add NFC and embedded secure elements *(eSE) across its Snapdragon 800, 600, 400, and 200 series processors.
NFC Forum Makes Latest Specs Available to Developers
The NFC Forum today made three adopted specifications and one candidate specification available to developers and hardware manufacturers. The three finalized specs were ratified by the NFC Forum in October and ensure compatibility between a wider range of devices.

Qualcomm today increased its offer to acquire NXP Semiconductors to $127.50 per share, or about $44 billion. The new offer reflects the increased value of each company, both of which have grown since the deal originated.
NFC Forum Adopts New Spec for Payments, Public Transit
The NFC Forum today said it has ratified and adopted a new specification that will ensure compatibility between a wider range of devices. The NFC Analog Technical Specification Version 2.0 targets the analog portions of the RF interface in NFC devices.
