AT&T Buys Wayport, Adds to Wi-Fi Hot Spots

AT&T has agreed to acquire Wayport for $275 million in cash. Wayport operates a network of Wi-Fi hot spots at locations such as McDonalds and several hotel chains. The deal will add free Wi-Fi access for iPhone and BlackBerry users at an additional 2,800 locations, including Wyndham, Marriott Vacation Club and Four Seasons hotels. With the acquisition, AT&T will control some 20,000 Wi-Fi hot spots in the U.S.

so what does this mean...

for other carriers? i mean, i'm with at&t but what about the people who aren't?
they pay, lol. This is a pretty smart buy for ATT I have to say, assuming the FCC doesnt auction off the white space spectrum for free WiFi access.... Oh wait, theyre already getting ready to do that, lol. Oh well, enjoy the extra revenue while it la...
