Verizon: Alltel Acquisition Moving Forward

Verizon Wireless said that its planned acquisition of Alltel Wireless is moving forward and should close by the end of 2008. Analysts are not so sure. Fitch Ratings believes that the worsening economy may play a role in keeping the acquisition from happening. It also says that if the federal government requires Verizon to divest too many assets, it may back out of the deal. Verizon announced its intent to acquire Alltel four months ago for the s um of $28.1 billion.
