AT&T to Expand Into Vermont

Because of regulatory concessions made by Verizon Wireless's purchase of Rural Cellular, it will have to divest some of its holdings in the state of Vermont. AT&T will be picking up those holdings, and can officially enter the state and offer is services there. The process will take several months to complete.

Why is this news? What's the big deal?

I don't understand the signifigance.
This is news because Vermont is the only state in the country in which one can't buy an iPhone (officially anyway), and also because the VZW/Unicel merger caused enough monopoly concern here to delay the deal for a year. By divesting Unicel's Vermont ...

So now Vermont has a couple of choices. Expensive or more expensive. Talk about monopolization. Hmmmm. glad I don't live in Vermont. Run Vermont! Run for your wireless lives!
Wait....people live in vermont??

But this would be the OPPOSITE of a monopoly...
