Samsung Chooses Infineon Over Qualcomm

Samsung has begun purchasing cell phone chips from German chip-maker Infineon. Until now, Samsung bought all its cell phone radio chips from Qualcomm. Samsung is following the steps of other handset manufacturers, such as Nokia, who have diversified which companies supply their businesses. The move will make for a more competitive chip market and stable supplies for the manufacturers, but is a blow to Qualcomm.

Qualcomm's downward spiral

First Broadcom and now this. I say Qualcom had it coming, bad karma I think.

1,100 CAPS investors just upgraded Qualcomm from its long held 3 star rank to a four star its outlook is not downward.

Hold on...

The title here is a little bit misleading. The article seems to indicate that Samsung will be buying chips from Infineon as well as Qualcomm, rather than solely from Qualcomm as they have done up until now. If that's the case Samsung didn't choose Infineon over Qualcomm as much as they have chosen each alongside one another.
Remember what happen to phones with Qualcomm chips last year? Qualcomm could not import the chips in or phones with the chip could not be imported into USA. It just looks like Samsung is making sure that there will be chips if something like this happ...
