AT&T CEO Says It Will Deliver 20Mbps Downloads

Speaking to investors, AT&T Mobility CEO Ralph de la Vega said that the company will enable 20Mbps downloads via its HSPA wireless network as early as 2009. He also said that by 2010, its network will be capable of 100Mbps downloads. AT&T has chosen LTE for its 4G technology, which is targeting 100Mbps downloads as a standard. While the 20Mbps and 100Mbps speeds de la Vega is speaking of are possible in optimal conditions, real-world speeds will be much slower. The LTE standard has also yet to be ratified.

EVDO, WI-MAX?

AT&T makin you guys look like fools 🤣
EVDO has a bigger coverage area. HSDPA is faster already but coverage is very little. Hopefully besides making the fast, faster... they will growth as big as the EVDO coverage otherwise by the time HSDPA is fully deployed.... WiMax and LTE will be the...

how so? att has chosen a standard that has not even ratified yet. lte is still in development att will be very lucky to have it up and running by 2010.

The real question is why is att boosting the speed of HSPA? the real reason is right now the re...

Stoopered.....

Are you a rep?

If so, do you argue with a customer when they say another carrier has better service in their home? Afterwords, do you ensure them that with the money Sprint has spent in that area that there is no possible way some other carrier can out-perform them?

just wondering.
No I'm not a rep. I'm sure your talking about voice coverage. Well I won't argue with a customer if I was. I would explain the technologies and make them aware of the pros and cons of GSM and CDMA. Everyone is aware that the quality of CDMA is much be...

Will it be overpriced like at&t 3g is now

I think customers will go for price and good speed IF WI-max is less expensive to use. Right now I sell at&t Sprint and T-Mobile. In this market at&t data runs $34.99 while Sprint is $15, both unlimited. The air card price plans are the same except Sprint offers unlimited data for $59.99 and at&t had a 5 gig monthly limit.at&t service has always been good, just why are they always so high on their monthly services. Maybe when T-Mobile lights up the rest of their network on 3g at&t will price match. I'm really glad I sell 3 carriers, we need even more competition to get these greedy companies to come down on their prices. Most of my customers purchase based on the monthly charges rather than data speed and I'll tell them which of my carriers...

Yeah, its true, more people would use data if it was cheaper. But networks cannot economically operate data networks without charging some reasonable rate. I think with more volume, rates could fall more.

$15-$20 for unlimited data on a handset...

I guess this is it...

This is how it's going to be in the near future between AT&T and you know who. It's all about how's got the fastest LTE network...
And I think we all know who that's NOT going to be...
Lord Voldemort has an LTE network???

Moco News?

Wow what a stupid news story. They are totally admitting that At&t feels threatened by Sprint. They say the Wimax network will only be 6mbps. Are they on crack? With direct link up with SiSo Antenna's they will get 6mbps. Are they talking about 15 miles away? The achieved speed with an MiMo antenna outdoors is over 40mbps with direct link. And the expected speed of Wimax initially is 10mbps at 10 kilo with a potential of 70mbps and a range of 30 miles. This story must be biased. The reality is that At&t will not have speeds of even 10mbps on its mobile network by 2009 and Wimax should reach between 120-140 million people by 2010. They are just trying to hype it up just like they did to the iPhone and to try and keep some customers. I admit i...
