CenturyTel to Use Spectrum Winnings to Supplement Wired Network

Rural wireline telephone provider CenturyTel announced that it will use 700MHz spectrum it won in the recent FCC auction to provide a broadband wireless overlay network covering areas of its existing wireline network. CenturyTel did not commit to using any particular type of wireless technology, nor did it provide a timeline for the network rollout. CenturyTel sold its wireless business to Alltel back in 2002.

does anyone else find this odd?
I don't think it's odd at all! With declining costs of Wireless Systems and the increasing costs for wire systems it's probably cheaper to setup a Wireless System to cover remote users than it used to run wire to them. They're just being economicall...
