Today at the CTIA trade show in Las Vegas, Sprint CEO Dan Hesse announced the Instinct from Samsung, a finger-touch phone based on the hardware design of the wide-screen F490 for Europe, but with an all-new touch user interface custom-designed for Sprint. The phone includes several key features to compete with the iPhone, including visual voicemail, threaded text messaging, and a full HTML web browser. The Instinct also features EVDO Rev. A data, a 2 megapixel camera, 3.1-inch, 240x432-pixel wide-screen display, voice control, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. A 2 GB memory card is included, and the phone supports cards up to 8 GB. The Instinct will be available in June. The device will be accompanied by a $100 million promotional campaign.

Message to Sprint:

People don't want a "giant touch screen phone." They want a phone that has a truly powerful web browser, email client, is quick in all of its actions, reliable, and good looking.

That's why the iPhone is a success. A crummy touch-screen feature phone is not a competitive response. But whatever, not like you have any customers left.
You may think you can fool everyone else, but just because you got banned from every web forum on the planet doesn't mean you can fool me.

Do yourself a favor and go feel up your t608

Guess thats why the iphone sold so many? Have you used the internet on the iphone, (white phones arent popular) quick? Guess you havent used the data on a REV A yet. O, dont forget the reliablity when you have to send the phone off for a battery repl...

this will beat the iphone. Cool
Because it is on Sprint and it is not made by Apple.
...
Just because the specs are nice doesn't mean it will automatically beat the iPhone. Personally, I don't think it will, but time will tell. I'm sure there are alot more Apple die hard fans out there than there are Samsung die hard fans. Dont get me ...

Wait, the iphone was succesful?

Could have fooled me. I thought it was a pretty big failure...how many got returned in the first 2 weeks? It's got great multimedia features, but as a phone? Come on, the iphone was not and is not succesful. Most people are not satisfied with it
Hint#1 : #2 Smartphone platform in the U.S.

Hint#2 : Sprint is trying to pitch their own knockoff.

$100 Million Dollars?

What are they looking to beat the iphone in?

Sales? not possible
Software? nope
Marketing? Iphone was marketed by the press with hype and by Apple

$100 million could be invested into other things. Network, Customer Service, Customer promotions.
My thoughts exactly. Surprised
...
what about speed and web browsing???
design???
and software is yet to be seen!!

Blade on steroids!!

This initial design smacks alot of the old A900 (which to this day, save for the small memory, and no navigation) has been one of my favorite phones to date. The fusic I have now is full of problems, and I need something better. Once this phone comes out, it's totally mine, it's what I wanted with the blade as far as looks, and samsung screen quality, with a PDA and full web browsing, and rev A and...and...man I need to stop. I'm just worried about a 400 dollar price point, just because you can sell high dollar cell phones, doesn't mean you can afford one...lol
Word is it will be quite a bit cheaper then the yphone = y pay more for something slower.

Is this the Glyde with Sprint's software?

Eh? Paranoid
yes and no. They're both touch screens, but this is a new-er phone and uses a touch capacity (heat sensitive) display v. the simple pressure sensor found in the Glyde.
