Today Opera announced that it has made a version of its Opera Mini mobile web browser compatible with phones running the BREW platform. Opera's Mini browser provides a richer browsing experience than the WAP browsers typically found on BREW phones. It will allow BREW handsets to access fuller content on more web sites, it will work faster and use less data, which will help keep costs down for users on per-megabyte data plans. Opera did not say when the browser will be downloadable from its web site.

It is NOT downloadable

Despite what the news blurb says, the BREW version cannot be downloaded. All of the downloads that are available on the Opera Mini website as of this moment are Java versions. And as one other poster said, as far as Verizon is concerned, the only way you'll be getting it is if VZW decides to add it to the Get It Now catalog. Even if the BREW version was posted for download, the dumb Openwave browser on most VZW phones would never allow you to actually download and install it.

Nice try though. 🤤
I went to Opera's site operamini.com from my LG VX8100's verizon browser and I tried to DL the mini that was on there. It correctly detected my phone, but said that my phone doesn't support Java. This means that the application is NOT the brew versi...

How to add it. It will be easy

When it becomes available just add it through BitPim. You can't download directly from Verizons browser but with BitPim it should be easy to add after you download it to your computer.

Downloaded?

"The browser can be downloaded from Opera's web site."

I thought BREW only allowed apps to be distributed through the carrier, and then they only allow apps that cost money. I wasn't able to find it on Opera's site anywhere. Does anyone know if this is really true?

Why bother?

This is like releasing a new TDMA phone.

Verizon Availibilty

Will this browser be available for Verizon Wireless?
I just tried to connect to operamini.com with my wife's voyager and it didn't recognize the phone model and said try the 'generic version' ☹️

Here is a list of the supported phones http://www.operamini.com/download/pc/all/
Verizon has to add it to their get it now catalog. That's the only way you will be able to get it. For some reason i can't see them allowing this as it would take sales away from the other devices that provide html. I sure hope they do though.

Free download?

Or will Verizon try to charge you for it [beyond the data charges]?
you would be billed the 1.99/mb unless you have Vcast unlimited.

as for additional charges I dont know where or if this will be avail on normal phones. I guess we will have to wait and see
