The FCC removed the last potential roadblock that might have prevented private equity firms TPG Capital and GS Capital Partners from completing their purchase of Alltel by approving the sale. The sale, valued at $24.7 billion, amounts to $71.50 in cash per share for shareholders. The FCC did cap the amount of money the new owners will receive, however, until they prove that operational reforms are underway. The deal will close by November 22.

I wish Sprint purchased Alltel.

Nextel is cool on their own, but they have been a big problem for Sprint. Nextel's churn is low and it effects Sprint's rating, because their churn rate is combine.
After the government made Nextel move out of a lot of their spectrum, the network has suffered a lot. Alltel would have been a much better buy. It sucks, because I am loyal to Sprint and I was loyal to Nextel. But Nextel is really making the company I respect most look bad. But Sprint is to blame for their horrible customer care. I don't think it's quite that simple for several reasons:

So what exactly does this mean?

Will Alltel being bought out, will the private investors try and resell Alltel for a profit, hold on to the company to see if it makes money, or divide it up and sell portions of it to other carriers (for instance, it wouldn't make much sense for Verizon to buy the Alltel towers in South Dakota since that would create a monopoly, but they might want the Nebraska ones), or will the private investors do something totally different?
basically: we don't know. That's why it was announced. They can do a lot of things with their alltel company. I personally think so much money was wasted in advertising, when they don't even cover the entire nation. I hate Alltel, and I sell for them....

? Goldman Sachs ?

I thought Goldman Sachs just bought them does this mean they are being sold again or that they have just been approved to be sold again if they were so inclined?
Goldman was not the sole buyer of Alltel. TPG was the other one.
GS Capital Partners = Goldman Sachs 🙂
