Mandatory $80 per month?

Verizon can take their mandatory $80/month requirement and shove it where the don't shine. Not everyone who has a PDA phone needs a data plan. I have an XV6600 which I've been looking to upgrade so I can run Windoze Mobile 5 or 6 instead of 2003SE, but if they're going to require me to take a $45/month unlimited data plan, they can go f*** themselves. I have a PDA phone primarily because of the software available for Windoze Mobile.

As everyone can see, the other carriers aren't sitting on their laurels any more letting Verizon continue to crap on them with things like Rollover Minutes, much cheaper data plans, and introduction of technologically advanced phones like these months and months ahead of Verizon. AT&T's coverage is now jus...

Hey,...I like your post a lot!!!

.....I've been with Cingular (AT&T) for almost 6yrs. I just wanted to say that I like your post a lot!!!
att is far from verizon and I dont even think the mandatory $80 plan is true.
...
Another great tactic used by Verizon.

I don't know gentlement (and ladies) but I think I read the PS article thoroughly and found nary a mention of a mandatory data plan. Since I am late to the party, perhaps there were some corrections made before I read it. However the more I read here ...

There is no such requirement to have a data plan with a PDA. None, zero, zilch, nada*

*Except Blackberry's, but that's due to an agreement with RIM
...
sounds like you should switch to at&t and stop whining.

LOL

Pricing and availability information is not available yet for the 755p, XV6800 or SMT5800.

So what's new we already knew about these phones, thanks verizon for all the info 🙄
LoL, the 755p and 6800 are already on Sprints network and have been for quite some time. The 755p goes for 249.99 and the 6800 is at 299.99. Hopefully with some competitive pricing, Sprint will have to lower these prices to match whatever VZW comes ...

Hold Up

So, was the hold-up of these smart phones/PDAs due to the new calling/data plans Verizon is working out or the new fun phones they just unveiled?

Knowledge of these phones has been passed around for the better part of the year on at least three of these devices ... Stringent testing aside, since the specs seem to be the same as purported months ago, I wonder why it has taken so long for Verizon to *officially* announce their releases.

I've been patiently waiting for these specific phones to come out on the market but my patience is really wearing thin. And it looks like I'll still have to wait a little longer for the HTC variants.
VZW is not cool, grrl
VZW may have been waiting for the Qualcom lawsuit to blow over.

GPS?

do any of these new phones have GPS?
i need a phone with
push email
3g
camera
GPS
keyboard
and wifi

I guess blackberry pearl for verizon
is my best bet
Yea, the BB is the only PDA thats going to get you the GPS and pushthrough e-mail. The Palm or Windows based PDA's don't do pushthrough unless you use a Microsoft exchange server for your e-mail.

The 8925 tilt is the only windows mobile device to allow blackberry Connect

it has a 3 megapixel auto-focus camera

HSDPA 3.6 AND EDGE

GPS

keyboard

and wifi

AND RUNS ON AT&T's network!!

The i760 was supposed to have GPS. However, there is no mention of GPS capability on Verizon's website. It looks like VZW has disabled the GPS. Maybe I'll be able to find a hack and turn it back on.
BabyDoc is right. The i760 does not have "true" GPS - it has "tower based" location services. I looked on the Garmin and Tom-Tom websites and both sites require the purchase of a bluetooth enabled GPS device in addition to their software for the i76...

Rev 0 vs. Rev A

Does anyone know if the i760 will be Rev0 or RevA? The original device (Dec 2006) was Rev 0 and I haven't seen anyone post anything about the version since then.
Not to be obtuse, but what's the difference? I'm not familiar with this technology therefore don't know what either offer.

Thanks. 🙂

I have the device but I can't tell if its Rev 0 or Rev A. How do you tell (other than calling VZW)? I looked under the battery, in the "info" device settings and even, gulp, in the manual.

good ol' VZW

"will require at least $80 with voice and data." Ah, the good ol' days of only Blackberry mandatory data 'sigh'. O well, more data for me!
data is not mandatory you can easily buy a pda online activate it online and use it for voice only good luck on the bill tho... why spend so much on a pda then be CHEAP and not want data

Cause for excitement?

Does anyone get excited anymore when Verizon announces a new smartphone? Especially since most are stripped down, crippled versions of what has already been released months before on other networks? 🙄

Verizon is the perfect choice if you want a lighter version of yesterdays technology sometime in the distant future. But hey, they are pumping out those hip music players for the tweeners.
However, VZW's smartphones aren't as badly crippled as their regular phones are.
...
Since you seem very knowledgeable on the subject, maybe you could educate me on what Verizon smartphones are crippled. I only know of the 8830 not being able to use GPS (yet).

You could even take it a step further and tell me what phones (non-smar...

Even If VZW Introduced 100 New Phones...

...Some dummy on PS will post "Verizon never gets any cool phones".

PLEASE! Get a life! It's a phone. Most phones offered by Verizon, or any other carrier these days, will make and receive calls, VM, text messages, and log onto the internet.

Most newer phones even have calculators, date books, games, speakerphones, etc. What do we need them to do next, clean the house?
Man, it would be wonderful if they could clean house...but it probably won't be a Verizon phone.

Still no release dates....

So they announce phones that a ton of people all ready knew about....but still provide no concrete release dates?

Cmon vzw!
I know you're looking for something more solid, but I'm willing to bet that the phones will appear sometime during the month of November. Looking at the new rebate pads, the 755p, i760, and xv6800 are all on there.

I know you were looking for so...

There is no mandatory minimum

Phonescoop just read the press release wrong. Verizon just mentioned that if you do sign up for the unlimited data, you can receive an additional discount. Plans start at $34.99.
That is one thing that I miss about VZW, $100 off of a phone for trying the data plan.
