AT&T Scoops Up Aloha Spectrum

AT&T increased its spectrum holdings today by purchasing $2.5 billion worth, covering 72 of the top 100 markets, from Aloha Partners. The added spectrum blankets 196 million people and will help AT&T meet future demand for wireless services. Aloha owns HiWire, which is trialling mobile TV services in Las Vegas. There was no word if the spectrum sale will effect HiWire's operations.

Go for ATT!!

They just keep getting better and better and bigger and bigger.

Does ATT have more spectrum than verizon?
Its not what ya got, its how you use it.

Take good ole sprint for example.

Not including this spectrum purchase, yes AT&T has more spectrum than Verizon. More importantly, though, they paid less MHz/pop than Verizon. AT&T has 68 MHz and Verizon has 53 MHz.

What? I don't get it.

I thought AT&T had more than enough spectrum. Didn't they actually sell 'leftover' spectrum last year? Now, they're buying more?
I'm confused...
With the Cingular/ATTws merger they had to divest a lot and when AT&T and SBC merged they had to divest their MMDS spectrum. They have enough spectrum but you always need more. By doing this purchase, it allows them to use it right away instead of if ...
